Elexys is expanding its service offering with smart energy asset control, in collaboration with the Ghent-based technology company Companion Energy.
With this new service, customers can now have their installations managed in a simple, transparent, and cost-efficient way. By combining the expertise of both companies, we maximise savings through peak shaving and self-consumption optimisation, without adding complexity for the customer. As a result, energy management becomes both more efficient and more financially beneficial.
What does the collaboration with Companion Energy involve?
In partnership with Elexys, Companion Energy defines the flexibility strategy and provides the technical control of the customer's energy assets. Elexys supplies a dynamic energy contract excluding imbalance costs, while passing on all benefits generated by the flexibility strategy directly to the customer. This combined expertise makes it possible to develop a tailor-made solution for each customer, depending on the type of assets and the available flexibility.
Why smart asset control?
Flexibility on the electricity grid is the future. It enables customers to respond easily to new market dynamics while reducing certain energy-related costs.
At the same time, the rapid growth of renewable energy in recent years has created new challenges, including negative electricity prices and significant fluctuations in imbalance prices. Smart asset control is essential for stabilising the energy market and helping businesses regain control over their energy costs, including during periods of geopolitical uncertainty.

Contract structure with Companion Energy
- The customer signs a direct agreement with Companion Energy for the asset control service.
- Companion Energy charges a subscription fee of €30 per month, supplemented by a fee per MW of consumption.
- Elexys does not charge any additional fees and provides a dynamic energy contract under favourable conditions.
- Imbalance costs are passed through to the customer on a one-to-one basis. This means that all savings and any potential profits are fully returned to the customer.
Companion Energy's control strategy is primarily focused on cost optimisation
- Peak shaving to reduce monthly peak demand charges.
- Maximising self-consumption to lower transmission and distribution costs.
- Avoiding electricity consumption from the grid during high-price periods.
- Integrating day-ahead prices and imbalance market signals within clearly defined boundaries.
The primary objective is to stabilise consumption profiles and achieve structural cost savings. Any additional market optimisation is only carried out within the available flexibility and always with full respect for the customer's operational processes.
